Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in The West Island of Montreal is located in Montreal and is home to many small-scale businesses. There is a West Island, which is commonly referred to as being a distinct "island" to the west of Montreal by those unfamiliar with the area, actually comprises everything to the west of Lachine. It is often cited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while it's true it was not her home. Her time in the city was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice in the outskirts of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a professional dancer. Then, a growing surge meant she had outgrown her dance partner. She acknowledged in a piece that was published in The Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall, even when she was wearing heels. Once I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Former dancers often turn towards acting. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of an instructor in drama at her high school that brought her to take the step she required. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the school's annual production. She was suggested by her teacher to take on a part in the school's annual production. In the end, she was selected to portray Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Award at York University led her to the Theatre Program and she graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's of Fine Arts degree.
